Lance Hunter is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. In the last four years, Hunter has received eight awards in national or international watercolor exhibitions. This includes the highest award from the Missouri Watercolor International Exhibition in 2014. He also received the second highest honor in both the Kansas Watercolor Society National Exhibition and National Watermedia Oklahoma in 2013.
His painting, “Omissive” received two awards including a purchase award for the permanent collection of the Springfield Art Museum in the Watercolor USA exhibition in 2010. A watercolor of Hunter’s daughter was featured on the title pages of Splash 8: Watercolor Discoveries, a popular anthology of contemporary watercolors published by Northlight Books. Two of his paintings were selected to be published in Splash 16: Exploring Texture to be released in 2015.
Hunter has exhibited oil paintings in the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society Exhibition and in the Southern Representational Painters National Exhibition. His oil paintings have been published in International Artist magazine and in American Art Collector magazine several times. Lance has received more than twenty-seven awards in national and regional exhibitions for his paintings and drawings.
In addition to his studio work, Hunter has completed more than twenty large scale murals in five states. His mural work is featured in Mural Art 2: Murals on Huge Public Surfaces around the World, a hardback book written in English by a Greek author, published in Germany and distributed internationally.
Hunter received an MFA in painting from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. He is an Associate Professor of Art at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma teaching painting, watercolor and figure drawing classes. Lance lives with his wife, artist Sylvia Nitti and their two children, Brooke and Chase.
